A Little bit about the area and Park Information
The Town of Plains Montana is a small quiet yet active community. The town straddles the Clark Fork River with the fairgrounds on one shore and the town proper on the other. The population was 1071 in 2016.The town was founded as "Horse Plains" as the local Indian tribes would winter their horses her to feed on the valley grasses. The name was later changed to Plains when the US Postal Service was established in 1905.
You can explore over 2,500 miles of trails in the Lolo National Forest. It is not uncommon to see Bighorn Sheep climbing on the rocks along the highway or grazing in a meadow.
